Frequently asked questions
How do I start or join a hangout?
Use the centre Start action in the app. You can start a hangout, join with a code, or scan a friend’s QR code. Hosts can share invite links, QR codes, or join codes.
How do I split an expense manually?
Choose Split expense, enter the amount and what it was for, pick the friends included, choose how to split it, then review before saving.
What happens when I receive an expense invitation?
You first see a limited preview showing who invited you, what the expense is for, and your proposed share. You can accept or decline. The full expense becomes available only after you accept.
How does receipt scanning work?
Choose Scan receipt or add a receipt inside a hangout. Bupples reads the image, suggests items, quantities, tax, service, tips, discounts, and totals, then lets you review and edit before anyone claims items.
Does Bupples move money?
No. Bupples is a record-keeping tool. It tracks who owes what, but payments happen outside the app by cash, bank transfer, e-wallet, or whatever method you and your friends choose.
What are transfer details?
Transfer details are optional payment instructions you add to your profile, such as a bank handle or e-wallet name. They help friends know how to pay you outside Bupples. Bupples does not verify them and does not process the payment.
How does settling up work?
Bupples shows balances and lets you use Record payment after money moves outside the app, so the group history stays clear. Pair-level settlement uses the direct balance between two people. Group payment-plan views may simplify debts to reduce the number of payments needed to clear the group.
What is Pip?
Pip is Bupples’ assistant. It can help explain balances, suggest what to do next, and answer questions about the app. Pip may use relevant app context to answer, and automated answers can make mistakes, so check anything money-related before relying on it.
What is Pip Pro?
Pip Pro is an optional subscription for extra customisation, cosmetics, higher limits, and convenience features. Core hangouts, splitting, recording payments, and settling up remain available without Pro.
How do I back up my hangouts?
Sign in with Google or Apple from the account area. Guest use is supported, but signing in helps your data follow you across devices.
How do I delete a hangout or my account?
- A host can delete a hangout from inside that hangout.
- To delete your account, open Settings → Delete account. Deletion is permanent. Shared expense history may keep limited records where needed so other members do not lose their balances.
How do I request a copy of my data?
Email ygshuh@gmail.com from the address connected to your Bupples account. Include that you want an account data copy. We may ask you to verify your identity before we provide it.
How do I report a problem or abusive content?
Use the report controls where available in the app, or email us with the details. Session hosts can also remove or ban members from their hangouts.
Is my data private?
Only the relevant people in a hangout, friend relationship, receipt, split, settlement, or profile surface can see the information needed for that feature. We do not sell personal data and we do not use advertising trackers. See the Privacy Policy.
